A research on reading and library use habits of the international students studying in Turkey

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the habits of reading and library use of international students. The sample of the study includes 493 international students studying in Turkey. Descriptive and relational research model was used in the study. Questionnaire technique in the data collection and frequency tables and chi-square test in data analysis were used. According to the research results, there is no serious difference on reading habits of students before and after coming to Turkey. However, the use of the libraries after coming to Turkey is found as increased significantly. Students who participated in the research declared that they read mostly novel before coming to Turkey. After becoming a part of Turkey’s higher education system, reading academic books has taken primacy. Those with high parental education, high level of income, and older are more likely to read book and use the libraries. There is a statistically significant relationship between the habits of international students before and after coming to Turkey. According to the findings, Turkish higher education system gets students adopt library usage habits.
