Historical Information

1918
The first Ministry of Education and Education in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Public Education, was established by order of the government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic of May 28, 1918. Its structure consists of three departments (general secondary education, higher and specialized secondary education, and vocational schools) was approved by order of the Council of Ministers of June 30, 1918.
1920
The Ministry of Public Education was renamed and reorganized as the People's Commissariat of Public Education by order of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR of April 28, 1920, and all educational institutions operating in the country were placed under its control.
1940
In 1940, the Department of Labor Reserves was established by order of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR, and vocational education institutions were placed under the control of the Department. In 1959, the State Committee on Vocational Education was established, which operated until 1988. Moreover, in 1959, by order of the Council of Ministers, a Committee of Higher and Secondary Special Education was established, and all the institutions operating in the republic were under its control. In 1964, the Committee was reorganized as the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education. In general, in Azerbaijan in the period 1959-1988. There were two ministries (the Ministry of Public Education and the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education) and one committee on education (the State Committee on Vocational Education).
1988
In 1988, by order of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR, all three departments were abolished, and the Ministry of Public Education was created on their basis. The Ministry of Public Education was renamed the Ministry of Education by order of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic of September 3, 1993. Resolutions of the Ministry were approved by a presidential decree of March 1, 2005

Jeyhun Bayramov was appointed Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan by Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated April 23, 2018.
